I love this video from Ira Glass, host of This American Life.
Right now, I think it would be better to insert the video in this post. But I don’t know how. I can’t find the ‘upload video’ icon. I am a blundering novice. I mean, if you only saw the video you would be instantly uplifted. You really must see it. But I do know how to make a link (see above).
What he says is that when you are a beginner at anything you will be often disappointed, because your work is not as excellent as your taste.

I take no credit for this list of rules for writers except for sharing it with you. My brother sent me the link. I am just awake and thanks to this I am also chastened to the danger of using adverbs. As if to demonstrate its acuity, my better self intervened before I could throw one in. Honest, I was about to use an adverb. Never again.
