100 Word Challenge – Christmas Carols

by limebirdkate

So, this blog post is a bit of a collaboration between LimebirdKate and LimebirdBeth. We stumbled upon the 100 word challenge from Julia’s Place.

100 word

This is the challenge that she set – ” I want you to choose a favourite carol and re-write it with the theme of a Christmas Dinner. You have to tell your readers which carol it is and they have to be able to sing your version back to themselves. That means the right tempo and beat.” So, here are our offerings:

LimebirdKate

To the tune of Joy To The World

Joy to the Chef!

He killed the goose

and served it with stuffing!

He pureed the squash

and mashed up the potatoes.

He dished up cranberries

and poured goblets of wine,

and then, and then

we wined and dined!

Joy to the Chef!

He baked three pies

pumpkin, pecan, chocolate!

He served sugar cookies

and spiked our coffee.

We’re feeling a bit full.

Oh very, very full!

So then, so then,

we watched TV!

LimebirdBeth

To the tune of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.

I am a stressed out mother,

With a hundred other things to do,

Even though I’ve written my list out,

I just need some help from you.

All you do is sit and watch me,

While I run around all day,

We need to do prep for Christmas dinner,

Or it won’t be done til’ May.

It’s a snowy Christmas Eve,

And all I have to say,

If you don’t come give me a hand

From my house, you’re gonna be banned.

Ah now I see you’re coming,

To help me chop, let me show you how.

I’m not longer a stressed out mother.

Time to put my feet up now.

The deadline is the 19th December, why don’t you have a go?

  1. I love them! They are both really cute.

  2. Okay, they’re stuck in my head for the day! I’m thinking you need to make a recording so I can take it along for Christmas Eve dinner at my brother’s. It just won’t sound the same (or good) if I sing them! LOL

  3. That’s funny and neat! Kind of like what I did with ‘We Three Kings” over on my blog, though I didn’t limit myself to 100 words. These are very clever!

  4. these were so fun! I was going to comment sooner, but I had too much fun writing my own :-D (I get sidetracked easily) Anyway, fantastic job!

  5. Yes, Neeks! Give us the link :-) and I should have posted a link to mine as well – so here it is if anyone wants to sing “It’s Beginning to Smell a lot Like Christmas” http://goofyj.wordpress.com/2011/12/16/100-word-challenge/

  6. Good job, guys. I haven’t even attempted it yet.

  7. Thanks, Neeks, that’s really nice :-)

  8. Haha mega win!

I actually sang them both outloud!

  9. Nice to see new faces! Great entries – and they ‘sing’ really well! Nice one!

  10. I sang them outloud too… totally doing Silent Night.

  11. I love those re-written carols. What a great idea!

  12. Hi, these are super. Have plans to sing over the festive season with th family :-D welcome to the #100wcgu :-)

  13. Congratulations at managing to do two very funny attempts. Joy to the chef is stuck in my head now hahaha

    • Hi Gills,

Thank you! I know what you mean. All of the songs I’ve been checking out through this fun challenge are getting stuck in my head too!

  14. Hehehe, or should I say hohohoho! Excellent rewrites. What fun! :D

  15. What fun! Particularly enjoyed the first verse of joy to the chef and Rudolph

  16. Both are very cute. I loved the second one slightly more, only because I was singing along to the tune and got a bit carried away ;) x

  17. Here’s the one I did to the tune of “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear”, but my title is “I Came Upon A Lobster Sweet”. Enjoy!

    • Hi Kat,

I love it! Great job. This is the kind of thing that I crave to do again, and yours is part of the reason! Really good job!

  18. Kate, your song is what I wish Christmas dinner was like and Beth yours is what it’s actually like for me (minus the part about being a mother). Both songs are great – lots of fun!

Merry Christmas to you both and everyone at Limebird =)
